The events of recent months in Belarus testify to a new wave of repressive actions of the state against any manifestations of civic position, freedom of thought and freedom of expression, including against those whose professional activities require a critical understanding of reality, drawing the attention of society and the state to the problems of observance of human rights.
European Humanities University, politically motivated by the repression of the regime of Alexander Lukashenko, since 2005 it has been a Belarusian university in exile and operates as a Lithuanian institution of higher education. In the first hours of Russian military aggression in Ukraine, EHU uncompromisingly condemned the actions of the Russian Federation https://ru.ehu.lt/novosti/ehu-community-statement/, in which he clearly protested against the use of the territory and the very name of Belarus in military actions as a result of a criminal agreement between the self-proclaimed President A. Lukashenko and Putin.

On January 9, the Applied Parliamentary Debate tournament was held at the European Humanities University (EHU). This is an academic event creating a platform for Visual Design and Media students to express their passion for language, critical thinking and tolerance of a different view and opinion. Students debated on three prepared motions.
On November 18-19, a seminar “Developing and managing Joint Master Programs: steps to success” was organized by the European Association for International Education (EAIE) at the Central European University in Budapest. Head of Academic Department of Social Sciences of the European Humanities University (EHU) Assoc. Prof. Jolanta Beliauskaite took part in the seminar.
During the course of the AY 2019/20 autumn semester, Assoc. Prof. Dovilė Sagatienė of the European Humanities University (EHU) Department of Social Sciences resided at the Harriman Institute at Columbia University in New York as a Fulbright visiting scholar. During her tenure at Columbia University Assoc. Prof. Sagatienė investigated the influences of current Russian narratives on legal judgments at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
On September 1-4, the 14th Conference on Baltic Studies in Europe (CBSE) was held at Uppsala University, Sweden. The Conference was devoted to the topic “Rights and Recognition in the Baltic Context” and was organized by the Institute for Russian and Eurasian Studies at Uppsala University and attracted more than 150 speakers worldwide to travel in post pandemic times.
Starting September 1, former advisor on education affairs in the Chancellery of the Government of Lithuania Assoc. Prof. Jolanta Bieliauskaitė becomes new Head of the European Humanities University (EHU) Department of Social Sciences. Current Head of the Department Prof. Emeritus Ryhor Miniankou will lead the Research Publications Center.
On November 20-21 an international conference “Development of Russian Law X” took place under the auspices of the University of Helsinki. Among speakers of the conference – Assoc. Prof. Maxim Timofeev of the European Humanities University (EHU) Academic Department of Social Sciences.
