Applied Parliamentary Debate tournament was held at EHU

On January 9, the Applied Parliamentary Debate tournament was held at the European Humanities University (EHU). This is an academic event creating a platform for Visual Design and Media students to express their passion for language, critical thinking and tolerance of a different view and opinion. Students debated on three prepared motions.

The first prepared motion was This House believes (THB) that the language of design is multimodality. (GOV: Arnes Martinez & Dana Mihunova; OPP: Lizaveta Kahalionak & Katsiaryna Ermolovich).

The second prepared motion was THB that visual arts should become minimalistic and non-metaphorical, as originality lies in simplicity. (GOV: Nastasya Zabela; Alexander Ledniajev; OPP: Dzmitry Kakhaniuk & Alisa Dzehtsiariova).

The third prepared motion was THB that modern media is responsible for unconscious anxieties in the perception of male and female bodies. (GOV: Iryna Smirnova & Katsiaryna Plaksa; OPP: Palina Stasheuskaya, Ulyana Zhdanovich).

The debate was convened by Assoc. Prof. Liudmila Arcimavičienė. The debaters were adjudicated by EHU Academic Mobility and Alumni Coordinator Natallia Leanovich and EHU Head of Student Service Anastasiya Radzionova.

In the final 2 most highly scored teams debated on the unprepared motion “THB that visual design art is about love and freedom”. The applied debate tournament award was granted to the team represented by Iryna Smirnova & Katsiaryna Plaksa.
