Professor Vladimir Rovdo obituary

Vladimir Rovdo, a recognized Belarusian politologist with Ph.D. in philosophical sciences, head of the Analytical Belarusian Center, who for many years served as a Professor of political science at the European Humanities University, has died at the age of 65.

Prof. V. Rovdo made an invaluable contribution to the understanding of the political problems of the modern world and analysis of the most important concepts of political science: he was the author of 3 parts of the textbook on Comparative Political Science, which was published by the publishing house of EHU.

In the 1990s, prof. V. Rovdo was taking an active part in educational civil society, together with politologist Viktor Chernov was publishing journal “The Civil Alternative”.

While EHU was present in Minsk, Prof. V. Rovdo collaborated with the Franco-Belarusian Faculty of Political and Administrative Sciences. After the university moved to Vilnius from 2007 to 2015, Prof. V. Rovdo was teaching the courses on comparative political science, the political system of Belarus, modern theories of democracy and civil society to undergraduate and graduate students of EHU.

The EHU “Public Policy” Master’s program was created with the active participation of Prof. V. Rovdo.

Prof. V. Rovdo was not only sharing the knowledge in the field of political science, but he was also forming democratic values ​​and ideals of civil society among students and readers of his numerous publications, research works. Prof. V. Rovdo was collaborating with various parties, consulted politicians and civil society activists, advocated a course towards Europeanisation and union only with the EU.

The death of Prof. V. Rovdo is a huge loss for the academic and political community of Belarus.
