Internationalization of education to be discussed at EHU

The EHU Center for German Studies and International Office has initiated a workshop on the Internalization of Higher Education in the Baltics, Central and Eastern Europe, and Germany. The event will take place at EHU (Tauro g. 12 – 407) on November 18 and bring together EHU partners from Lithuania, Germany, and other countries.

Higher education in Europe, from its very beginning, has been an international experience. In the age of nationalism that followed these origins, the university became a core institution of the nation state. Today, the Bologna Process fosters institutional cooperation and individual mobility beyond national borders. The Internationalization of Higher Education workshop aims to encourage both the exchange of experiences in our ongoing work and discussions of challenges in the near future in the fields of formal and informal internationalization of higher education in Central and Eastern Europe.

When the European Humanities University was operating in Minsk, it had begun to build an international network of partners and donors. In Vilnius, this network was crucial to enabling EHU’s restart. Today, this special experience helps the University create new academic programs. As the only Belarusian university to participate in the Bologna Process, EHU has a special capacity for the transfer of knowledge produced within this framework.

The workshop will provide a forum for specialists of international relations in higher education, quality management, and didactics in transnational settings. Individual workshops will address particular issues such as curricular development within Erasmus+, the daily routine of translation for higher education, and the international dimension of evaluation.

Speakers will include Dr. Markus Steinmayr, head of International Affairs of the University of Duisburg-Esseny; Dr. Markus Hafner, director of the German Academic Exchange Service branch in Riga; and Dr. Felix Ackermann, director of the EHU Center for German Studies. More information about the speakers and program is available online.
