Historical Memory Meets Higher Education: EHU and Lithuania’s Genocide and Resistance Research Centre Forge Broad-Based Collaboration

On 21st of August, Rector of EHU Dr. Vilius Šadauskas held a meeting with representatives of the Genocide and Resistance Research Centre of Lithuania: Director General Dr. Arūnas Bubnys, Senior Advisor Aivydas Keršulis, Head of Legal and Human Resources Administration Dr. Asta Aranauskienė and Head of Research, Director of the Memorial Department Dr.  Linas Jašinauskas and Public Engagement on Occupation Regimes Dr. Artūras Grickevičius.

EHU Rector Dr. Vilius Šadauskas presented the university as a culturally, economically, and socially significant institution in the region and highlighted its commitment to offering students innovative programs and meaningful international collaborations. The meeting served as an opportunity to explore a wide range of collaborative possibilities: the discussion emphasized not only the potential for student internships, providing hands-on professional experience, but also the prospects for joint academic research and innovative initiatives. Both institutions considered ways to actively engage students and communities in meaningful projects, foster knowledge exchange, and develop frameworks that bridge historical scholarship with creative public outreach. This will offer EHU students from diverse programs the opportunity to gain unique experience and to contribute not only to research but also to creative projects designed to engage younger audiences and present the work of the Genocide and Resistance Research Centre through innovative and compelling approaches.
Both institutions identified overlapping needs and complementary strengths, creating a strong foundation for future collaboration in cultural, historical and communication initiatives. This institutional partnership not only enriches the mission of the EHU but also enhances the attractiveness and practical relevance of academic programs.
