What is the Department of Social Sciences?
An educational environment where students learn to understand how society works, how words, laws, images, and ideas shape the modern world — and how to use them to influence politics, media, cities, and international relations.
Here, critical thinking meets research skills, and legal and political expertise combines with the ability to engage in dialogue and act in the public interest.
Students explore global processes and local contexts, analyze information flows and political trends, study how gender influences the life and development of societies, and understand how legal norms are created and key decisions are made.

The department offers three undergraduate programs:
And five master’s programs:

- International Trade and Business Law (LL.M.)

Experts and Faculty
The department has an international and gender-balanced team of highly qualified faculty members. Courses are created by recognized experts with both national and global experience, collaborating with leading international organizations, government institutions, and major commercial companies. They do more than share knowledge — they teach students to analyze, think strategically, and take responsibility for the future.
Research Centers and Laboratories
In the Department of Social Sciences, theory is seamlessly integrated with practice — from media projects and negotiation simulations to urban research and real-world public policy cases. A key element of this approach is student participation in research centers and laboratories, where academic knowledge becomes a tool for real change, broadens horizons, builds in-demand portfolios, and opens career opportunities in international organizations, the business community, and academic and cultural institutions.
Key research platforms include:
- Center for Constitutionalism and Human Rights, conducting research and expert work in constitutional law and human rights, training a new generation of lawyers capable of working in both international and national institutions;
- Center for Gender Studies, implementing interdisciplinary projects, researching and promoting gender equality, and creating a scholarly and educational platform for social change;
- Laboratory for Visual Culture and Contemporary Art Studies, developing educational projects and multimedia products that connect theory and practice in media and the arts;
- Laboratory for Critical Urbanism, studying urban environments and forms of civic engagement, and offering practical solutions for sustainable and inclusive development;
- Center for Research of Intersubjectivity and Interpersonal Communication, exploring human interaction through both theoretical and empirical approaches, and organizing events that foster interdisciplinary dialogue within EHU and beyond.
Alumni Mission
Our graduates are next-generation leaders: analysts, lawyers, journalists, diplomats, researchers, urbanists, experts in international security and public policy. They are capable of initiating change, developing sustainable solutions, and influencing the development of society — both in their home countries and globally.
This is an invitation to think critically, speak boldly, and act responsibly!
