Delegation from Finland visited the EHU

On May 12, the European Humanities University administration members were honored to meet the Delegation from Finland: H.E. Ambassador of Finland to Lithuania & Belarus Arja Makkonen, Chairman of the Finnish Group for Interparliamentary Relations with Lithuania Sakari Puisto, Member of the Group of the Greens / European Free Alliance Heli Järvinen, Adviser to Parliament’s International Relations Department Mika Laaksonen.

The Rector of the University, Prof. Sergei Ignatov greeted the guests and expressed gratitude for all the support provided to EHU by Finland. The latest financial contribution in 2021 helped the University to support several Scholars at Risk from Belarus that were repressed after the elections 2020. The members of the Delegation were acquainted with two scholars who received support from the University and were able to find out more details about their backgrounds.

Moreover, the following topics were discussed during the meeting:

  • Rector Prof. Sergei Ignatov introduced EHU’s state of affairs, explained the main peculiarities of the University and the influence of today’s situation in the region on the EHU;
  • Informed the Delegation about the CPMA and new Action Plan 2022;
  • Discussed the situation of the Belarusian and Ukrainian students who suffered from political repressions and war.

The community of the University expresses its gratitude for all support and interest to the EHU and Belarusian people from the side of Finland.
