The initiative came from Alisa Vorobei, a third-year student of the Visual Design program and an active member of the club. Alisa not only prepared the materials and negatives for the session but also introduced participants to the cyanotype process, including essential safety guidelines.
So why cyanotype? According to Alisa, the idea first came to her back in 2024. “Everyone loved it. It’s a beautiful and fascinating technique — and, most importantly, it’s totally doable even when resources are limited. But somehow the idea never moved forward, so I decided to take the lead, learned it myself, and then offered others the chance to try it too.”
The workshop offered total immersion into the process. Participants mixed their own chemical solutions, coated the paper with a light-sensitive mixture, dried it, and then used UV lamps to expose the images. The final stage — rinsing — required patience and a delicate touch, but in the end, everyone walked away with impressive prints.
The workshop sparked great interest among students, and the results exceeded expectations! F8 Photo Club is continuing its series of creative sessions — more workshops and experiments are just around the corner.
