EHU Participation in Mental Health in short and long-term international mobility projects seminar

From October 15-18, 2024, the Head of the Student Service and International Mobility Unit at EHU, Natallia Leanovich, represented the university at the “Health E+Motions” international seminar in Warsaw, Poland. This event focused on addressing mental health in short- and long-term international mobility projects.

The seminar, hosted by the PL National Agency for Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps, included a range of activities such as consensus mapping, power speeches, and specialized workshops on mental health resilience, depression prevention, and nonviolent communication. Expert-led sessions offered practical tools and strategies tailored to help university staff better understand and support the mental health needs of students participating in international exchange programs.

Ms. Leanovich participated in discussions on integrating mental health support into mobility projects, focusing on the unique challenges faced by students studying abroad for the first time. Workshop topics included mindfulness techniques for preventing depression, fostering resilience in youth mobility, and addressing the stigma surrounding mental health issues. An emphasis was also placed on supporting participants from conflict-affected regions, highlighting the importance of cultural sensitivity and tailored mental health resources for these individuals.

In addition to in-depth sessions, participants engaged in hands-on activities, including team-building culinary workshops and study visits to leading Polish mental health and social support institutions, such as the Children’s Aid Center of the Empowering Children Foundation and the University of Warsaw’s Psychological and Counseling Services Centre. These experiences enriched the seminar’s collaborative atmosphere, providing networking opportunities to foster cross-institutional partnerships and share best practices.

Through her active participation, Ms. Leanovich brought back insights that will inform EHU’s strategies for enhancing mental health support and resilience training within its international mobility framework. Her attendance underscores EHU’s commitment to prioritizing student well-being and adapting to the evolving needs of the global academic community.

EHU is excited to explore how these innovative approaches can further support its international students, providing them with a healthy, inclusive, and supportive environment during their time abroad.
