New Program “Business Economics” at EHU

EHU, in collaboration with BEROC RC, is launching a new bachelor’s program “Business Economics” with a duration of 3.5 years. The “Business Economics” program will prepare economists with a unique set of competencies. The program combines competencies cultivated by liberal arts education at EHU with in-depth study of the subject area of economics and business. Through the “Business Economics” program, EHU expands its mission to the fields of economics and business. The first admission of students for the new program will take place this year.

The program will cultivate students’ abilities for critical and analytical thinking, understanding the socio-cultural and humanitarian context of the modern world, as well as a wide range of specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for work in advanced fields of economics and business. The program’s curriculum will enable students to acquire competencies in economics, finance, and business, mathematics and statistics, as well as in the fields of artificial intelligence, data science/analytics, and information and communication technologies.

The languages of instruction at the beginning of the program will be Russian and Belarusian. However, in the first year, students will intensely study English. This will facilitate a gradual transition to full English language instruction in the second year of study.

Students in the program will have a wide range of opportunities for interaction in the international academic environment. The core faculty for the program are researchers from BEROC RC and partner institutions who hold doctoral degrees from Western universities. Guest lecturers from top universities worldwide will also be invited to teach in the program. Through mechanisms of interaction within the BEROC RC partner network – Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics, SSE-Riga, Kyiv School of Economics, and others – students will be able to participate in joint international courses and interact with students from other countries.

The social partners of the program are leading innovative business companies. Students will have opportunities for direct interaction and communication with them, which will provide practical experience during their studies.

The “Business Economics” program opens up a wide range of career development paths for graduates. The competencies of graduates aimed at practical activities will be in high demand from companies in innovative fields, the financial industry, and others. Already today, there is a noticeable shortage of such competencies in Central and Eastern European countries. Graduates aiming for further education at the master’s (and doctoral) level can expect that the level of their knowledge and competencies will allow them to continue their studies at the best universities in the world.
