New composition of the EHU GB membership was appointed by the EHU General Assembly of Part-Owners (GAPO) in December 2016. The University’s strategic management body is now composed of prominent experts in the field of higher education and high-ranking diplomats, with a skill-set required for the current stage of University’s development. Long-standing Denmark’s Ambassador to Lithuania, Russia (and to Belarus and to countries of Central Asia), and Latvia Per Carlsen was elected as Chairperson of the GB.
According to Acting Rector Jørgen Jørgensen: “I welcome the EHU Governing Board’s decision to convene its first meeting in Vilnius. New membership composition of the Governing Board follows recommendations that were set up by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, our Swedish partner – and confirmed by GAPO’s appointments — in making EHU governance even more efficient. I am particularly pleased to see an outstanding commitment and expertise of the GB members, and particularly, of the renowned expert in the Eastern European region, elected Chairperson of the GB, Ambassador Per Carlsen, — who are now in charge of the strategic governance of EHU”.
During the meeting GB endorsed EHU Action Plan 2016-2018 in the framework of the earlier adopted EHU Strategic Plan 2016-2021, and also the reviewed University structure. GB voted in favor of Ewa Ośniecka-Tamecka (Vice Rector, College of Europe) candidacy to the EHU Rector’s Selection Committee.
GB members reviewed the status of progress in preparation for the EHU Donors Conference, which is scheduled to be organized in cooperation with the Swedish International Development Agency in spring 2017.
During the meeting a working session with Lithuania’s Vice Minister for Education and Science Dr. Giedrius Viliūnas took place. GB members and Vice Minister discussed the outcomes of EHU internal planning and management processes enhancement, and EHU’s preparation for the institutional self-evaluation process.
After the meeting GB members together with the University’s administration visited the Augustinian monastery in Vilnius Old Town, where University campus is expected to be moved this year.
The next EHU GB meeting is scheduled for April 2017.
