Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis joins EHU in the call for solidarity

On March 31, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis joined European Humanities University in the call for solidarity and urged Belarusian authorities to immediately and unconditionally release all political prisoners.

Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis launched a solidarity campaign calling for the release of a 3rd-year student of the university, human rights defender Maryia (Marfa) Rabkova, and other Belarusian political prisoners. Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis also urged the Lithuanian society and the international community to join the social media campaign and to actively contribute photos and messages, demanding the release of political prisoners.

“A wave of persecution, the imprisonment and intimidation of people, and mass violations of human rights currently taking place in Belarus are unprecedented in the 21st century Europe. Minsk must understand that the world sees its crimes. Lithuania and the international community will not stand aside,” said the Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis.

Five students and alumni of EHU still remain imprisoned: Maryia (Marfa) Rabkova, Akihiro Gaevski-Hanada, Mikalai Dziadok, Wlodzimierz Malachowski, Ihar Barysau.

Community of the European Humanities University expresses gratitude to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis for the solidarity and support of EHU and the Belarusian people in striving for freedom and justice and calls on the international community, partners, supporters, and donors of the university to contribute to the restoration of the foundations of law, respect for human rights in Belarus; to support the victims of repressions by the authorities, and do everything possible to overcome the political crisis in the country.
