Jointly organized by the European Humanities University (Vilnius, Lithuania), Ukrainian Catholic University (Lviv, Ukraine), and Charles University (Prague, Czech Republic), the conference aims to explore both the theory and practice of decolonizing education and social science research.
The conference program includes engaging sessions such as discussions, thematic panels, and working groups.
Dr. Tatiana Shchyttsova, a philosopher and professor at EHU who also advises Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya on education and science, opened the conference. She emphasized the relevance of theoretically justifying the applicability of the decolonization concept in the context of Belarus and Ukraine. Dr. Shchyttsova expressed hope that the conference would serve as a starting point for long-term collaboration in the field of decolonization.
The first day featured a discussion titled “Dismantling the Imperial Legacy: ‘Learning to Unlearn’ in Academia,” with esteemed panelists:
- Dr. Vitaly Chernetsky, University of Kansas
- Dr. Aliaksei Kazharski, Charles University
- Dr. Rasa Čepaitienė, Vilnius University
Moderated by Dr. Tatiana Shchyttsova, this discussion set the stage for exploring decolonization in education and research.
