First EHU Seed Fund projects approved
On February 28 the Committee of the EHU Strategic Development approved first two projects submitted for financing of the EHU Seed Fund by the researchers of the university:
“Theatre on the Edge”. A project of the Academic Department of Humanities and Arts developed by Associate Professor, Curator of the Program “Theater Art and Acting” Aliaksandr Marchanka. Two-day conference titled “Theatre on the Edge: 2020 – 2022” may become a unique opportunity for dialogue between theatre artists from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Today, these countries are directly or indirectly involved in the conflict caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Under these circumstances it is important not only to reflect on the theatre process, in which the epidemic, the war and the totalitarian regimes established in Belarus and Russia intervened. The preservation of professional relations and creating a safe space for a free exchange of opinions between theatre artists of these countries is extremely important. This can become a basis for the future, a guarantee of preserving cultural ties, the complete rupture of which is fraught with new catastrophes. To prevent this, at least in the theatre environment, is the task of this conference;
“Recording to Belarus-Lithuania border conflict part 1”. A project of the Academic Department of Humanities and Arts developed by Associate Professor Stephan Zakharkevich. The goal of this project is collecting audio-interviews of people who fled to Lithuania through Belarus as part of the border conflict artificially provoked by Belarussian authorities since 2021. Many people who come to Lithuania through this route are in migration centres now. Although the enormous amount of people impacted there is little known about the circumstances, people and organisations connected to the transfer of migrants and details of this process. In this situation migrants in Lithuania are an important source of information. They stay in migrant centres only for some months. so this activity and research among them is only possible in the current time. The object of this project is the collecting of material for further scientific processing. Methodologically the work will be built on a mind maps approach which allows to minimise traumatic pressure on interview partners. The method is well elaborated and implemented in other research works.
The aim of the EHU Seed Fund is to ensure purposeful distribution of funding for the implementation of the research (art) activity and in this way to promote development of Research and Development at the university – initiation of research (art) projects, preparation of high-quality research publications and artwork presentations / events.
