A triumph for the Humanities
EHU’s performance in the humanities was groundbreaking, earning an impressive 732.65 total points, the highest score the university has ever achieved in this field. The result per full-time academic position at EHU is the best among all Lithuanian universities and research institutions.
“Although we may not be the largest university, our commitment to innovative research and a strong focus on quality make a big impact. This unparalleled productivity and dedication by our researchers underscore the university’s ability to make significant contributions, not only in Lithuania but also to the global discourse in the humanities,” said the EHU Rector Dr. Vilius Šadauskas.
Social sciences: Scaling to new heights
In the social sciences field, EHU also set a record with 329.24 points, marking its strongest performance to date. The most significant contributions came from research in communication and information, sociology, and education, fields that are increasingly relevant to addressing contemporary regional challenges. EHU now ranks sixth per full-time academic position among all Lithuanian universities and research institutions in the social sciences, with its reputation and influence continuing to grow.
Artistic achievements
EHU’s artistic endeavors also reached new heights in 2023, with 33 artistic works evaluated across a diverse range of disciplines: 21 in fine arts, 2 in design, 9 in theater, and 1 in music. This marks the highest number of evaluated works in the university’s history. In the field of visual arts, EHU proudly ranks as the second-best university in Lithuania, while in theater, it holds a commendable fifth place. These achievements reflect the dynamic creativity of EHU’s artistic community.
Common Lithuanian and Belarusian history: EHU’s finest work
In 2023, EHU faculty and researchers published monographs, academic studies, and articles in scholarly journals, while the artistic community actively contributed with a diverse range of creative works.
The highest-rated publication from EHU is A. M. monograph in Belarusian “Павятовыя соймікі ў сацыяльна-палітычным жыцці Вялікага Княства Літоўскага (1697–1764 гг.)” on the topic of county assemblies (pavietų seimeliai) in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries. It ranked third among all works in the field of history published by researchers from Lithuanian universities and ninth among all publications in the field of humanities.

According to the Rector, these evaluations highlight EHU’s ability to balance academic excellence with practical relevance: “The exceptional results demonstrate that the university’s researchers and artists are leaders in delivering humanitarian insights and driving meaningful contributions to social and cultural advancements.”
