In March-October 2019, EHU together with the Belarusian National ICOMOS Committee continues implementation of the project “Development of Community-Based Restoration Concepts for Former Synagogues in Belarus”, funded through the Development Cooperation Program of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and the Central Project Management Agency. Dr. Stsiapan Stureika of the Department of Humanities and Arts serves as a leader of the project.
Head of the Communication and Development Unit Maksimas Milta has shared the institutional experience of EHU in scaling the scope of the project’s original outreach of the single former synagogue in Ashmiany in 2018, to a complex and interdisciplinary project, covering former synagogues in Izabelin, Zhaludok, Barysau, Vitebsk in 2019. The successful implementation of the project was also presented during a number of international forums, including “Urban Jewish Heritage, Absence and Presence”, held in September 2018, and the 5th Heritage Forum of Central Europe, held in September 2019 in Krakow.
