The European Humanities University expresses deep concern and regret regarding the situation related to the issue of professional behavior of one of its lecturers.
During Sergei Seleckij’s tenure at the University, the EHU Academic Ethics Commission received an appeal in 2022 concerning a faculty member’s possible violation of the Code of Academic Ethics of EHU. The Committee did not find evidence to support the claims made in the complaint.
In September 2023, prior to Sergei Seleckij’s exhibition, complaints and accusations against the lecturer emerged in the public sphere. EHU takes these complaints very seriously and believes it is necessary to conduct an internal inquiry into all circumstances.
Complaints regarding violations of academic ethics are reviewed by the EHU Academic Ethics Commission, in strict accordance with the laws of the Republic of Lithuania. The Commission also welcomes suggestions for improving the Code of Academic Ethics of EHU. Members of the academic community have the option to contact the higher authority, the Ombudsperson for Academic Ethics and Procedures.
Considering the vulnerability of the complainants and the sensitivity of cases involving professional ethics violations, EHU will explore the option of implementing additional measures to guarantee confidentiality and safeguard the interests of the complainants. Enabling the evaluation of anonymous reports will enhance the fairness and objectivity of investigations into each case of professional ethics violation.
In the 2023/2024 academic year, EHU will conduct a series of educational events and seminars for the university community to increase awareness of professional ethics standards and conduct rules in the educational and workplace environment.
EHU reminds of the availability of individual psychological consultations. For support and assistance in crisis situations, you can contact alena.vasilyeva-padabed@ehu.lt, Telegram – @psychologistEHU.
The university remains open to dialogue and collaboration with all interested parties, and we hope that the resolution of this situation will be based on fairness and objectivity. Our goal is to support and contribute to the development of education and culture while sticking to European standards of academic ethics and professional conduct.
