EHU Department of Humanities and Arts presents the first issue of the theatrical almanac

The Academic Department of Humanities and Arts is proud to present the first issue of the almanac “Draft – Theater at the Crossroads: 2020–2023,” dedicated to various aspects of theatrical art. The almanac features a unique collection of articles and interviews from authors from 8 countries.

In “Draft – Theater at the Crossroads: 2020–2023,” readers will find articles on the Belarusian festival movement in emigration and the theme of protests in Belarusian drama, on contemporary Ukrainian performances shown in Germany, on the new German theater, and the challenge that Ukrainian drama has posed for it.

Readers can expect fascinating materials on transformations in the theaters of Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Finland, and Kazakhstan, reflecting the diversity of theatrical trends in these countries. In addition, the almanac addresses current issues of the theater scene in Russia, related to increased censorship following the invasion of Ukraine.

Special attention is given to interviews with renowned playwright Marius Ivaškevičius, theater producer Audronis Liuga, as well as theater and movie actress Airida Gintautaitė, allowing readers to get closer acquainted with Lithuanian theater and its key figures. The almanac also features the play “Women in the Dark” by Masha Denisova and Irina Serebryakova.

The publication of the almanac was made possible thanks to the efforts of the editorial team, which included Alla Shenderova, Kseniya Kniazeva, and Aliaksandr Marchanka.

This issue was released with the support of the German Marshall Fund and Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, emphasizing the importance and relevance of its content for the global cultural community.
