EHU and VMU student Mikalai Dziadok brutally beaten and detained after protests in Minsk

On March 25 series of massive demonstrations took place across Belarus, dedicated to the 99th anniversary of the Third Constituent Charter of the Belarusian People’s Republic. In the aftermath of demonstrations, hundreds of peaceful protesters were detained, including – European Humanities University (EHU) and Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) student Mikalai Dziadok.

Mikalai Dziadok is a second-year undergraduate high-residence student of the joint-program of EHU and VMU “World Politics and Economy”. In 2010-2015 Mikalai spent 5 years of imprisonment as a political prisoner. After Mikalai’s release, he returned to his studies at EHU. During his second year of studies, Mikalai was fulfilling his joint-degree studies at VMU in Kaunas.

During his detention on March 25, Mikalai was heavily beaten by police officers and experienced traumatic brain injury.

EHU and VMU faculty, students, and staff express solidarity with Mikalai. University leadership is following the case closely and maintains the contact with student’s family.
