The first collection of papers by young political scientists, who are graduates of the EHU’s undergraduate program “Political Science and European Studies”, is dedicated to political sociology, political culture, and gender political studies with a focus on Belarus. The collection investigates the current topics of the Belarusian context. With this edition, EHU emphasizes a particular academic approach established at the University and its focus on political issues within Belarus. The objective of EHU and KAS cooperation is to popularize political science research about Belarus and simultaneously to de-marginalize the independent Belarusian political science generally.
The first issue features the papers by Aliaksandr Herasimenka (“Political participation and internet platforms: how new communication technologies help belarusian civic activists”), Tatsiana Shaputska (“Political mythogenesis in Belarus in 1994-2010: ruling elite’s discourse”), Olga Gaiduk (“Political holidays as tools of nation and state representation in Belarus, 1996-2014”), Darya Maslanava (“Civic and political activism of Belarusian students: case study of EHU students”), and Hanna Martsinovich (“Comparative analysis of the level of gender equality in France, Lithuania and Belarus”).
The online collection “Politics and Society in Belarus” is available both in Belarusian and English.
According to EHU and KAS, the collection shall turn into a solid and long-term tradition and continuously familiarize readers with the outcomes of Belarusian political thought and analysis. EHU and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung share the aspiration to bring research closer to practice and assist the consolidation and democratization of Belarus by the means of a scientific, intellectual debate and reflection.
The collection of papers will be of interest to European and Belarusian politicians, activists, political scientists as well as those who seek for an alternative view on Belarus.
According to the Head of the Belarus Country Office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Dr. Wolfgang Sender: “Following recent political processes in and around Belarus, the country gets more and more in the attention of European politics. With this publication, we would like to strengthen the availability of analytical reports in order to provide additional objective and current insights for experts, scientists, and politicians. We are proud to be part of this new cooperation project with EHU”.
Since EHU’s official re-establishment in Vilnius in 2006, a total of 192 alumni have graduated from EHU undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the field of political science. Currently, EHU offers following programs:
- Undergraduate double-degree program “World Politics and Economics” (implemented in cooperation with the Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas);
- Graduate program “Public Policy”.
