Open Lecture: Viktoriia Serhiienko “Our People” in the Vatican: Lithuanian KGB agents during the first years of “Ostpolitik” (1958-64)

Center of Belarus and Regional studies invites EHU academic community to open lecture of Dr. Viktoriia Serhiienko “Our People” in the Vatican: Lithuanian KGB agents during the first years of “Ostpolitik” (1958-64).

Dr. Viktoriia Serhiienko is a researcher at the German Historical Institute Warsaw. In 2014, she completed her PhD studies at the history department of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv with the thesis entitled “Formation and activity of the Orthodox Church brotherhoods of Left-Bank Ukraine (1864–1917)”.

Dr. Serhiienko’s research focuses on the religious and social history of Central and Eastern Europe in the XIX–XX centuries. The last topic she has been working on deals with the history of Russophile and Ukrainophile orientations in eastern Slovakia between the two world wars. Now Viktoriia is enrolled in the international research project aimed at study of the pontificate of Pius XII and is entitled “The Global Pontificate of Pius XII. Catholicism in a Divided World, 1945-1958”.
