Meeting and discussion with students from USA

On March 16th at 17:30 (room 110) a group of 14 students from DIS (Study Abroad in Scandinavia) in Stockholm are going to visit EHU and would like to meet with students from Belarus, Ukraine and other countries.

The students are interested in a wide range of topics, but security, liberal democracy and (des)information are the key topics for them.

Topics of the discussion:

  • What kind of nation state responses, actions on the EU level and initiatives on the trans – Atlantic level are needed to ensure the security and prosperity in the region?
  • Where do you get the news from?
  • How does the information flow differ in Lithuania and Belarus?
  • How do we decide what is valid news v. fake news or disinformation?
  • And what should be the role of the government in deciding what we get to see? How does social media impact political views?

Very briefly about the delegation:

DIS – Study Abroad in Scandinavia is a not-for-profit but self-sustaining higher education institution, based in Copenhagen since 1959 and in Stockholm since 2016, founded during the post-war period to strengthen the links between Europe and the US. The aim of DIS has been and continues to be, to give young, talented American students the opportunity to study abroad and, upon their return, to apply the knowledge and experience they have gained to their further studies or work. All credits received at DIS are transferred to universities in the USA. Many of DIS former students, especially those who have studied political science, are in leadership positions in a wide range of American political, diplomatic, and social institutions and organizations. DIS works with around 160 universities across America. DIS organizes over 250 different courses in English, some of which have integrated academic trips to other European countries.

The meeting will be followed by a dinner; all registered participants are invited.

Please register for the event here until March 14th.
