The Department of Humanities and Arts of European Humanities University and the School of Digital Competencies of EHU are thrilled to announce an upcoming event in support of a future Bachelor Program in Game Development currently being designed by a team of faculty and industry specialists. Although a humanities university is not a common place for hackathons and meetups of game developers, the current situation in the industry calls for new approaches. Challenged by the emerging role of AI in performing coding and scripting tasks, game development seeks new ideas rather than just new technologies. The biggest projects of the decade, for example Roblox currently with 1 billion (!) downloads on Google Play, owe their success not to revolutionary engines or tech insights but to creators who dared to think differently.

Since Plato’s time, it has been academia that taught people to think alternatively. That’s why the Department of Humanities and Arts of EHU and the School of Digital Competencies of EHU are bringing together game creators and narrative designers from across the region to discuss how the ideas behind major projects, from S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl to World of Tanks, were born. Through this mutual exchange between those involved in teaching and studying history, heritage, theater, acting, and game design, not only new knowledge but also new creative practices may emerge.

Conference host and moderator – associate professor, Victor Martinovich.
Location: 327, Savanorių pr. 28, 03116 Vilnius
