Free Screenings of “Freedom on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom”

The Belarus Affairs Unit of the U.S. Embassy in Vilnius is pleased to invite you to a free screening of the documentary film “Freedom on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom” as we mark the one-year anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The American director of the film, Russia-born Evgeny Afineevsky, will be present for a discussion with the audience after the screening.

“Freedom on Fire” tells the story of Russia’s war against Ukraine and invites audiences to look at the humanitarian crisis caused by the invasion through the eyes of Ukrainian journalists, soldiers, doctors, artists, volunteers, clergy, children, and mothers. The documentary film shows Ukraine’s spirit of unity even in its darkest hours and challenges the international community to stand together against tyranny.

Featuring an introduction by Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren, “Freedom on Fire” has already won awards at the several international film festivals.

The film is primarily in Russian and Ukrainian, and will be presented with English subtitles.

The film will be shown at the “Pasaka” Cinema Boutique, Šv. Ignoto g. 4/3 in Vilnius’ Old Town. The film will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 26. The doors to the cinema will open at 12:30 and admission will be limited to the first 150 people to arrive. The film is about two hours, and the discussion with the director will be about 40 minutes.
