The Great Synagogue of Grodno was built in the 16th century, has been many times rebuilt and reconstructed after devastating fires, and was selected as a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007. The “Extermination” audiovisual installation is a monologue about the history of the place and individual experience of a person in time and space, an attempt to perceive history through emotional perception, find the truth and catch the light.
The installation has been created as a part of the project “Preservation and Actualization of Former Synagogues in Belarus for the Benefits of Local Communities” by assoc. prof. of the Department of Humanities and Arts at EHU, dr. Stsiapan Stureika. Project research conducted for the work on the installation has been conducted with the participation of EHU students.
The presentation will be delivered in Russian with the subtitles in English, languages of public discussion with the participation of authors of the installation, Kseniya Shtalenkova and Viktoryia Bahdanovich — Belarusian, Russian and English.
