Design Workshop “What is the true value of education”

On May 6-10, a workshop “What is the true value of education” will be held for prospective students of the graduate program “Visual Plastic Art” of the European Humanities University (EHU). The aim of the workshop is to help to conceptualize projects and to evaluate their potential. The workshop will be held by the Head of the “Monstra” international film festival, director, media artist, animation teacher at Caldas da Rainha School of Design and Arts Fernando Galrito (Lisbon, Portugal), as well as a lecturer at the Academic Department of Humanities and Arts Julia Titowa.

According to Fernando Galrito: “The main idea of the workshop is to show (with practice) to the students that animation is also and essentially creativity. Propose them to work with and on analogue settings, give them more open mind to experiment with other ways of solving problems and find other solutions outside the machine.

Because we can’t ever forget,

That the creation is a delightful game that is to break up the rules.

And rules are rules of art, of course”.

The program aims to generate strategies for using simple elements that create a dialogue between design and illusory movements (animation). The training program will be composed by five complementary workouts. Those five different experimental exercises, that complement each other, can create a basis for future student works. The result of the training can create an exhibition space and art installation.

Exercises:

1: The direct drawing|animation on paper film | Collective exercise

1: The animated book object – Individual exercise

3: The movement of the movement. – Individual exercise

4: Telling a story in 50 frames – Individual exercise

5: A Poetic animation based on a piece of poetic music or in a poem

The goal of these exercises is to open new ideas and opportunities for students to create new art objects and films from the dialogue between different arts and artists. Is also a moment to present and create new methodologies proposing one larger interactivity between animation and other arts, and at the same time to give more competences to the students, opening their creativity to the creation of new artistic approaches to moving images and design and new ways of thinking and doing artistic objects.
