The Center for Gender Studies at the European Humanities University (EHU) invites students, employees, and everyone interested to take part in the global campaign “WikiGap Challenge”. The campaign will run from March 8 to April 8, 2021. It will be focused on the reduction of the gender gap in the articles in the world’s largest virtual encyclopedia – Wikipedia.

According to statistics, 9 out of 10 editors at Wikipedia are men, and only about 20% of biographical articles in the encyclopedia are written about women. The goal of the project is to expand knowledge about women by writing new and/or improving the content of existing articles about famous and outstanding women.

EHU calls for the creation of articles about women representing various cultures and in compliance with the Wikipedia formatting rules. However, first, it welcomes the filling of the gap in the Belarusian cultural space.

The “WikiGap Challenge” will run from March 8 to April 8.

The campaign is being organized at the initiative of the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the support of the Swedish Embassies, the UN Human Rights Office, as well as volunteers and activists around the world.

Detailed information on participation in the “WikiGap Challenge” can be obtained from the Doctor of Sociolinguistics, coordinator of the Center for Gender Studies Dr. Uladzislau Ivanou, uladzislau.ivanou@ehu.lt, as well as by following the link. Information about the project in English is available here.
