In 2017 more than 200 applications were submitted for the participation in the International Student Conference. 97 applications were selected, including 23 EHU students’ presentation abstracts. The guests of the conference represented Belarus, Russia, Georgia, Armenia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Poland, Lithuanian universities and Bard-College Berlin.
The conference program was also preceded by a series of pre-conference events on May 2-5, including workshops, lectures, round table discussions, book presentations and student research project presentations, film screenings and other activities. On May 4 EHU hosted an opening of the “Experimental Book Publishing” exhibition featuring EHU student works.
The official opening of the Conference took place on May 6. Conference participants were welcomed by the Chairperson of the EHU Senate Professor Emeritus Ryhor Miniankou and the Chief of Academic Affairs Prof. Aliaksandr Kalbaska. Opening of the conference featured keynote lectures by a prominent Belarusian historian and EHU lecturer Siarhej Chareuski and Dr. Agata Lisiak from the Bard College Berlin.
The program of the Conference was divided in 14 sections dedicated to various questions of humanities and social sciences. The students discussed the challenges of liberal education, gender studies, digital shift, public policy, political and economical transformations, ethical questions of contemporary medicine, etc. Participants of the English-language section “Technology and the City” analyzed specificity of the urban processes and aspects of “smart cities”.
