Conference Follow-Up “Protecting Lawyers to Ensure Access to Justice” – June 27, 2025

On June 20, 2025, the EHU Center for Constitutionalism and Human Rights hosted the Fifth Scientific-Practical Сonference “The Human Rights Lawyers’ Movement and the Convention on the Protection of the Profession of Lawyer: Theoretical Aspects, Best Practices, and New Challenges”.

Building upon the momentum of our Conference discussions and the shared commitment to safeguarding the legal profession, we are pleased to recommend a high-level joint event “Protecting Lawyers to Ensure Access to Justice”.

Venue: Geneva, Palais des Nations, Room XXV & Online

Organised by the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) in cooperation with the Council of Europe, the International Bar Association Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI), and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, this event will gather prominent international voices to address the urgent and evolving challenges facing lawyers worldwide.

This event is an opportunity to continue the legal discussion upon the Convention on the Protection of the Profession of Lawyer and draw attention to the situation in our region towards human rights and the conditions of the legal profession.

Speakers include:

  • Margaret Satterthwaite – UN Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers
  • Christoph Henrichs – Chair of the Council of Europe Committee of Experts on the Protection of Lawyers (CJ-AV)
  • Roman Zavrsek – CCBE First Vice-President
  • Sophie de Graaf – Lawyers for Lawyers Executive Director
  • Ernstine Kornelis – Deputy Permanent Representative of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to UNOG
