Inesa Stolper joins Lithuanian EU studies faculty trip to Brussels

On January 27-28, lecturer Inesa Stolper of the European Humanities University (EHU) Department of Social Sciences participated in the information visit to Brussels-based institutions of the European Union (EU). 3-days intensive agenda featured meetings with representatives of the European Commission (EC), the European Parliament, and the Permanent Representation of Lithuania to the EU. The aim of the visit was to discuss recent policy developments, new opportunities and challenges for Europe.

The visit began with a discussion with Dovilė Vaigauskaitė on the role of the EC as the Political Executive of the EU, followed by the presentation of Sixtine Bouygues on priorities of the new Commission and Silvano Presa’s valuable insight on Multiannual Financial Framework for 2021-2027. The European Green Deal and key policies to becoming the world’s first climate-neutral continent by 2050 was heatedly debated with Commissioner Virginijus Sinkevičius. The first day of the visit finished with the latest developments of the Brexit process with Matthieu Hébert and Eastern Partnership Policy Framework with Radosław Darski.

The second day started at the Permanent Representation of Lithuania to the EU, where Ambassador Jovita Neliupšienė kindly welcomed the group and openly addressed a variety of topics from the relationships with the UK after Brexit to the transition to a green economy. The day continued at the European Parliament. MEPs from Lithuania, including EHU Governing Board member Andrius Kubilius and Jesús Carmona Núñez, talked about the role of the Parliament in future developments of Europe. The visit ended at the Commission by a presentation of Christophe Manet on complex relations between the EU and China.

The visit united 25 leading political scientists, economists, historians, sociologists, law and engineering professors from various Lithuanian universities and served as a platform to expand connections, share experiences, views, and opinions on subjects of common interest.

EHU expresses gratitude to EC Visitors Centre and EC Commission Representation in Vilnius for organizing the trip and particularly to Head of the Representation Arnoldas Pranckevičius, and Laura Vaiciukevičiūtė, who masterly organized all activities and supported participants during the whole trip.
