EHU Students Took Part in the OSUN Social Entrepreneurship Course

In December 2021, EHU students successfully completed OSUN Social Entrepreneurship Course – a course that was focused on practical steps needed to realize a business idea addressing social and environmental problems. The course is part of Bard MBA in Sustainability program and is based on the innovative learning system RebelBase which allows connecting social enterprise cohorts and practicing entrepreneurial thinking and problem solving via experiential learning. At the end of this workshop-based course, students had an opportunity to pitch their idea for funding.

All in all, 11 EHU students participated in the course together with students from other universities of the world that are members of OSUN and locally here, at EHU, under the supervision of Natalya Mikhailova.

At the end of the courses, the following projects were proposed by the students:

  • Tactile Book: prototype of a tactile book for blind and visually-impaired children. The project has won after the end of the course on December 17th in EHU-wide competition for grants to support student projects (300 EUR plus paid expenses for creating a second prototype to be given as a present to the school for blind children in Belarus). Students of the Bachelor’s program “Visual Design” Yana Kandratsyeva and Liubou Nikalayeva participated in the course and in this project with the help of other EHU students and volunteers.
  • Conscious Lab: an app that explains to users how to lead an environmentally conscious lifestyle, also offering challenges upon completion of which reward points can be redeemed in local eco-friendly businesses. This team was selected to participate in Disrupt to Sustain Pitch competition hosted by Bard MBA on December 12th , pitching in front of international judges and US investors and answering their questions for 12 minutes. The team consisted of EHU students Anna Babyliova (BA program “Media and Communication”, Liubou Mytskikh (BA program “European Heritage”), Liyana Kakhanouskaya (BA program “European Heritage”) and students from Palestine and Bulgaria.
  • The Ring of Power: affordable online education platform with courses for high-school children from rural Belarus.
  • 5000 Steps: app for IT employees motivating them to engage in physical activity for bonuses that can be redeemed at their workplace.
  • Open Office: rental of small-rooms work space in Vilnius.

As the result, EHU students had their first experience with 1) entrepreneurship and 2) a project-based course, 3) taking a class with many other campuses. All three aspects were challenging and immensely enrichening their professional skills.

According to one of the students who completed the course: For those who have intentions to open their business it is a brilliant opportunity to look inside,  learn theory and rehear interaction with people who have other aims. Working in one direction  will help to achieve both you and her/his goals. You learn how to make your intentions come  true”.

For those who couldn’t join the course this year, it will be held the next academic year as well.
