President Nausėda’s meeting: “EHU is a positive example of civic education for Belarusian youth”

On August 13, President of Lithuania Dr. Gitanas Nausėda hosted a meeting with non-governmental organizations, representing Belarusian civil society. It was stated that Lithuania will not leave Belarusians alone in trouble and will continue providing humanitarian aid. During the discussion, held at the initiative of Lithuanian President, European Humanities University’s assessment of current developments in Belarus was presented by University Chancellor Lina Gorbačiovienė.

During the conversation with representatives of non-governmental organizations that are focused on strengthing civil society in Belarus, President Nausėda stressed: “Lithuania cares about developments in the historically close neighborhood. For quite a while, we are actively supporting Belarusian civil society – not by chance Vilnius has become home for many human rights organizations. We will always be open for those, who are fighting for freedom, democracy, and human rights”.

During the meeting, Vilnius-based European Humanities University was highlighted as a University that has contributed a lot to the civic education of Belarusian youth.

Chancellor Lina Gorbačiovienė added: “In case of international support EHU will remain opened for those students, who experienced repressions in Belarus”.
