“Problems of heritage conservation in the region of the former Grand Duchy of Lithuania”

On the occasion of the International Day of Monuments and Sites (April 18), which this year is celebrated under the motto “Heritage under Threat from Disasters and Conflicts”, Vilnius Old Town Renewal Agency in cooperation with the Belarusian-Jewish Cultural Heritage Center, ICOMOS Belarus and the European Humanities University invites you to a public event on strategies for heritage conservation in the historic lands of the former Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

The event will bring together experts from different countries to discuss contemporary challenges of heritage conservation in the context of instability and crises. The event will also be attended by professors and students of the European Heritage and Creative Tourism and Cultural Heritage Development programs at EHU.

A special place in the program will be taken by the presentation of the VR reconstruction of the Great Synagogue of Volpа, one of the most beautiful wooden synagogues in Europe, destroyed during World War II and digitally recreated as a result of a year-long interdisciplinary collaboration. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience the reconstruction through a VR headset by walking through the synagogue on an immersive virtual tour.

Join us to learn how technology, historical research, and civic responsibility can intersect to preserve an endangered memory and see this lost heritage in virtual reality.

The event will take place on April 17 at 11.00 am at Stiklių g. 4 (Vilniaus senamiesčio atnaujinimo agentūra).
