Žygimantas Pavilionis to Class-2022: “It’s exactly what saves the humanity – your souls, your brains, your education”

On July 1, the Graduation Ceremony of the European Humanities University, Class-2022 took place in the Grand yard of the University Campus. For those who couldn’t come to the event, an online broadcast on YouTube was organized.

This Graduation Ceremony has become the fourteenth in a row for graduates of Bachelor’s programs and the sixteenth for graduates of Master’s programs since EHU relocation to Vilnius. 119 talented students graduated this year.

The hosts of the event were Anastasiya Radzionava, EHU alumna, Class 2016, and Aliaksandr Ratsko, a student of the «Theater Art and Acting» program. According to tradition, the Ceremony was held in several languages: Belarusian, English, Russian and Lithuanian. After greeting the Rector, faculty, graduates and invited guests, the student anthem “Gaudeamus” was played.

EHU Rector, Professor Sergei Ignatov congratulated the graduates: “This year the European Humanities University is celebrating its 30th anniversary, and these 30 years are a chance and hope, work and a challenge that made it possible for more than 3,000 EHU graduates to become part of a global world committed to the values of humanism and democracy. Dear graduates, I congratulate you with completing your education at the university. Alma mater is proud of you. Thank you”.

Member of the Seimas of Lithuania, guest of honor of the Ceremony Žygimantas Pavilionis delivered an inspiring speech to the guests of the Ceremony: “It’s exactly what saves the humanity – your souls, your brains, your education”.

Belarusian singer Ketevan Asratashvili also congratulated the graduates. She performed touching compositions “Charnabrivtsy”, “Decide by yourself”, “Great Again”.

This year marks the 500th anniversary of the first book printed by Francysk Skaryna, the Little Travel Book. The floor was given to Associate Professor of the Department of Humanities and Arts, Belarusian artist and illustrator Uladzimir Dowgialo. He congratulated the graduates, spoke about the importance of Francysk Skaryna’s work and presented Rector Sergei Ignatov with a gift – a watercolor portrait of Francysk Skaryna.

In 2022, the title of the best graduate of the EHU Bachelor’s program was awarded to the graduate of the European Heritage program Liana Kohanouskaya. Liana expressed gratitude to the faculty, the founder of the university, Anatoly Mikhailov, the university.

The title of the best graduate of the EHU Master’s program was awarded to the graduate of the program “International Law and European Union Law” Chrystina Hyrla. She addressed all the participants of the Ceremony and shared her unforgettable impressions of the studies period.

During the Ceremony, for the tenth time, the results of the annual voting for the “EHU Distinguished Alumni” award were announced. This year, the award went to Tatiana Kouzina, who held the positions of secretary and coordinator of the French-Belarusian Department of Political and Administrative Sciences, head of the international relations department and lecturer at EHU. Tatiana was at the forefront of founding the school of young managers of public administration Sympa and the Belarusian Institute for the Reform and Transformation of Public Administration Bipart. Now Tatiana is recognized as a political prisoner in Belarus. A friend and former colleague of Tatiana Katsiaryna Radzko received the award for Tatiana. She called on the entire EHU community to be united with the civil society of Belarus and political prisoners, and also asked them to continue to support them and write letters.

Not all graduates were able to join to the Graduation Ceremony, but they were able to join the online broadcast of the Ceremony on the EHU YouTube channel.
