Responding to an uninterrupted wave of repressions against participants of peaceful protests and solidarity rallies in Belarus, Vilnius-based European Humanities University (EHU) announces the opening of the Emergency Fund, aimed at supporting at-risk students and faculty from Вelarus.

Thanks to the Swedish Institute’s grant, the initial amount of the Emergency Fund is set at around 100 000 Eur. The generosity of Swedish partners of the University will allow EHU to continue providing assistance to those students from Belarus, who are persecuted on the basis of political motives back home. The origins of the EHU Emergency Fund date back to the aftermath of the 2010 Presidential Elections in Belarus and EHU’s campaign to support students, who were expelled from Belarusian Universities back then.

Specifically, students who have experienced political or any other sort of pressure and were expelled from Belarus-based Higher Educational Institutions, are encouraged to apply to EHU in order to be transferred to one of the study programs and to receive a full-tuition waiver in order to continue studies in a liberal arts-driven environment.

Faculty members and scholars from Belarusian Universities and research centers, who are confronted with politically-biased persecution are invited to individually contact Department of Social Sciences (dep.social@ehu.lt) or Department of Humanities and Arts (dep.humanities-arts@ehu.lt) to learn more about possibilities to carry out joint research projects in the framework of a research fellowship under the affiliation of the Belarusian University-in-Exile in Vilnius.

Following high residence and low residence study programs of EHU are available for transfer:

  • Undergraduate program “Visual Design” (Bachelor of Arts)
  • Undergraduate program “European Heritage” (Bachelor of Humanities)
  • Undergraduate program “Media and Communication” (Bachelor of Social Sciences)
  • Undergraduate program “World Politics and Economy” (Bachelor of Social Sciences)
  • Integrated studies program “International Law and EU Law”) (Master of Law)

Since September 2020, thanks to the support of the Government of Lithuania provided on the basis of funds of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 52 students from Belarus were already enrolled in tuition-free studies at EHU in AY 2020/21.
