EHU hosted “The Generator” Field School

On May 22-26 EHU hosted “The Generator” Field School for the group of students from European Humanities University, Arizona State University and Bard College Berlin.

The Field School focused on socio-political, infrastructural and cultural aspects of energy transformations in the region in context of the climate crisis and of Russia’s full-scale invasion into Ukraine. It combined lectures and conversations with experts and activists, research visit to the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant and its satellite town Visaginas (including meetings with INPP ex-General Director and with Head of Environmental Monitoring Laboratory), simulation game with the group of students of Wageningen University and Research from the Netherlands, as well as experimental solar power kitchen. Full programme of the Field School can be found here.

“The Generator” project is a multi-sited, multi-campus, multi-disciplinary seminar on energy justice within the framework of the Experimental Humanities Collaborative Network and funded by the Open Society University Network. It was built on interdisciplinary expertise and experimental research and teaching methods of the participating faculty – Siarhei Liubimau (European Humanities University), Jen Richter (Arizona State University), Agata Lisiak (Bard College Berlin), and Carmina Sanchez (Hampton University).
