EHU Has Been Awarded a Grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to Advance Digital Humanities Initiatives

We are excited to announce that the European Humanities University has received a grant approval from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, marking a significant advancement in our academic endeavors. The grant, amounting to $50,000, will be directed towards fostering innovation and integration of digital technology in humanities research and education. EHU lecturer Inesa Stolper will be leading this impactful project, ensuring its success and alignment with our institutional goals.

Here are the specific activities planned under the Digital Humanities Lab:

  1. Innovative Project Competition: The lab will organize a competition to fund five projects, each receiving a budget allocation of $1,500. This competition is designed to encourage creative and groundbreaking ideas at the intersection of humanities and digital technology.
  2. Student Involvement in AI Applications: A pivotal part of this initiative is to engage on paid basis two students with strong IT skills to assist faculty members in incorporating artificial intelligence into both research and teaching. This will not only enhance the learning experience for students but also elevate the quality of research and instruction in humanities disciplines.
  3. Seminar by Professor Wodecki: In February, Prof. Wodecki will conduct a seminar focusing on the latest advancements in using AI in teaching and research. This seminar is expected to provide valuable insights into the application of digital tools in humanities and social sciences and foster a deeper understanding of the field.
  4. Faculty Support for Digital Humanities Research: The grant will facilitate the integration of digital tools and methodologies into existing humanities research. By employing advanced technologies like AI, the faculty will be able to delve into new dimensions of research, offering fresh perspectives and innovative approaches.
  5. Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Training: The Digital Humanities Lab will serve as a platform for interdisciplinary collaboration, bringing together scholars from various humanities disciplines and technology experts. This will include training sessions and workshops aimed at building the digital competency of our faculty and students.
  6. Outreach and Dissemination of Knowledge: The lab will actively engage in disseminating its findings and experiences. Through publications, conferences, and online platforms, the lab will share its insights and methodologies with the broader academic community and the public.

This grant represents a transformative opportunity for EHU to lead in the field of digital humanities. We are confident that these initiatives will significantly enhance our research capabilities and academic offerings, while providing our students with invaluable, hands-on experience in this rapidly evolving field.
