Ambassador of the Netherlands to EHU students: “You are the future of Belarus”

On September 14, the Ambassador of the Netherlands in Belarus Daphne Bergsma and Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy Erik-Jan van Oosterhout met with students of the European Humanities University (EHU). The main purpose of the visit was to get acquainted with the students, to discuss the Belarusian agenda, the steps taken by the European Union to resolve the political crisis in the country, as well as the position of the Netherlands towards Belarus.

From the side of the University, the meeting was attended by:

  • Kurlovich Yauheniya, 4th-year student of the European Heritage program;
  • Anna Babyliova, 4th-year student of the Media and Communication program;
  • Hanna Savitskaya, 4th-year student of the International Law and EU Law program;
  • Yerafei Daineka, 3rd-year student of the Media and Communication program;
  • Sabina Aliyeva, 3rd-year student of the International Law and EU Law program.

The students introduced themselves, their civic position, the projects in which they are taking part, shared their views on the situation in Belarus and discussed the role of Russia in what is happening. In addition, the participants of the meeting noted the extreme importance of the settlement of this situation not only for the Belarusians, but also for all European countries, and also discussed possible mechanisms for resolving this crisis.

H.E. Ambassador Daphne Bergsma emphasized the particular importance of supporting civil society in Belarus and noted that the Netherlands has been providing assistance to civic organizations in the country for over twenty years, and also added that EHU students are the future of Belarus, because the breadth of their views, good education, courage, civic engagement can serve as a platform for the formation of a new democratic generation of future Belarus.
