The webinar opens a series of events that will address not abstract intersubjectivity (as it usually takes place in various phenomenological theories) but interpersonal relations in their anthropological concreteness that shows itself first of all as concreteness of certain types of asymmetry. Indeed there are many types of interpersonal coexistence originally asymmetrical due to correlative, bodily-based, anthropological differences, in particular: adult and child, adult and elderly one, physically disabled person and “normal” one, person having a chronic illness and healthy one, etc. These types of interpersonal coexistence highlight corresponding primordial phenomena of life – birth and death, strength and decay, vital ability and disability, suffering and well-being. The series is aimed at the investigation of ontological, ethical, and social implications of different types of asymmetric relationality at issue. The first webinar will be devoted to intergenerational asymmetry.
The event will be arranged as a reading-and-interpretation session of the two articles:
- James Mensch: „The Intertwining of Generations: Merleau-Ponty’s Chiasm as a Paradigm for Understanding Intergenerational Relations“;
- Tatiana Shchyttsova: „Asymmetry and Gift“.
The event will take place via the Zoom platform on March 10, at 2:00 – 4:00 PM (Vilnius time)
The webinar will be held in English.
