Public lectures “Palestinian refugees and the question of Citizenship”

On October 30-31, within the framework of the “Global Citizenship” course the public lectures “Palestinian refugees and the question of Citizenship” will be held in the European Humanities University (EHU). The lectures will be delivered by Mostafa Elostaz  (Al-Quds University).

This interdisciplinary course “Global Citizenship” critically examines the conceptual and theoretical foundations of the concept of global citizenship and investigates how the idea might work in practice. We begin by considering the conceptual, philosophical and historical debates about national and global citizenship. Then, we evaluate these ideas in the context of globalization and the new problems—such as forced migration and climate change—created by an increasingly interdependent world. Throughout the semester students will engage and collaborate with students across the Bard International Network who are also studying global citizenship, creating a dynamic global conversation about the potential for and limitations of global citizenship.

One feature of this course is that it is being taught concurrently at all of the Bard network campuses — Al-Quds Bard (AQB), the American University of Central Asia (AUCA), Bard-Annandale (BCA), Bard College Berlin (BCB), the European Humanities University (EHU) and Smolny College (FLAS) — and we will collaborate with students in other sections on projects related to global citizenship throughout the semester. These collaborations offer an opportunity to understand how specific local problems can have global significance, to demonstrate how similar problems unfold differently in different places, and how global citizenship is conceptualized and studied in different contexts.

Update: The lectures will take place on October 30, at 15:30 in the EHU Campus (room 221), and on October 31, at 13:30 (room 303).
