Lecture of Aude Gata “Does International Law Exist?”

On December 16, the European Humanities University and Centre francophone en sciences humaines et sociales invites EHU students and faculty to join the lecture of the visiting speaker Aude Gata “Does International Law Exist?”

After obtaining a Master’s Degree from Aix-en-Provence Law University and a Master’s Degree from the Graduate Institute in Geneva, Aude Gata completed her Ph.D. at Aix-en-Provence Law University where she focused on the question “Will the international legal regime for weapons of mass destruction be able to adapt to the new political and strategic realities of the 21st century?”

Aude has been lecturing law courses at various universities and conferences since 2003. She is also a qualified French lawyer and held different positions in NGOs and at the French Parliament. She is currently based in London where she is a freelance legal consultant. Aude’s main research interests center around security matters, with a particular focus on disarmament. She is also interested in the history of law and political ideas, as well as environmental and human rights law.

Dr. Aude Gata’s lecture in Vilnius is entitled: “Does International Law exist?” The majority of states does not fully respect International Law, however, we do not live in a world of complete anarchy. In the absence of an international law code, without any international constitution, without an overarching tribunal and without international police, how can international law exist and function? Based on concrete examples, the aim of this lecture is to provide a realistic analysis of law in international affairs.

NB! The lecture will be held in a hybrid format: offline in aud. 110 and online via Zoom on December 16, at 17:00-18:30 (Lithuanian time). To participate (either online or offline), please register via the link
