International Conference Women in Tech “Gender and Im/Material Labour”

We are thrilled to announce the upcoming International Conference Women in Tech “Gender and Im/Material Labour,” which will take place on June 15-16, 2023. This thought-provoking event will be held both offline at the European Humanities University located at Savičiaus str. 17 in Vilnius, Lithuania, and will also be available for online streaming.

More information about the conference program.

The conference aims to delve into the intricate connections between gender, labor, and technology in our modern society, with a focus on the gender inequalities that persist within the hi-tech industries. Women continue to be underrepresented and face discrimination in these fields, and it is crucial to address these issues.

Throughout the conference, we will explore the significant role of women in knowledge production and intellectual labor within the digital society. We will shed light on the undervalued and underpaid forms of immaterial labor, such as the service economy and the labor of care, giving them the attention and recognition they deserve. From a feminist perspective, we will critically examine theoretical approaches to the analysis of immaterial labor.

We are excited to host speakers from Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania, Kazakhstan, and other countries, who will share their valuable research and experiences. Their contributions will greatly contribute to our collective understanding of gender and immaterial labor in contemporary society.

This conference will serve as a platform for scholars, researchers, activists, and industry professionals to engage in meaningful discussions, share insights, and propose practical solutions to address the gender disparities in the tech industry and beyond.

The conference is organized by the Center for Gender Studies at the European Humanities University, in the framework of the Women in Tech project. The Women in Tech program is an infrastructural educational and research project aimed at supporting women in the IT field, stimulating research at the intersection of technology and feminism, and promoting gender equality in the field of high technologies. The project was launched by the EHU Center for Gender Studies and is funded by the European Union.
