International conference “Opportunity for Societal Transformation through Education: The Case of Belarus”

European Humanities University (EHU) celebrates its 10th anniversary in Vilnius in March 2016. On this occasion EHU is pleased to co-host international conference “Opportunity for Societal Transformation through Education: The Case of Belarus” dedicated to the unique experience of EHU in the past 10 years.

For over 20 years it has been the mission of EHU to build a new vision of higher education, based on the global Humanities and liberal arts tradition, that can help young people make sense of the post-Soviet situation and provide new opportunities for students in the region.

In the present social conditions, we are witnessing dramatic changes in the collapse of the former educational system, though it has yet to be replaced with a better alternative. In the existing circumstances, an adequate evaluation of the ways and methods of realizing Bologna educational projects in countries of this region is of vital importance, especially with the momentum of Belarus joining European Higher Education Area.

In order to evaluate the results of EHU activities during the past 10 years, the conference “Opportunity for Societal Transformation through Education: The Case of Belarus” aims at providing the opportunity for the discussion of possible models for transforming higher education institutions in Humanities and Liberal Arts within the Bologna community and throughout globe, raising the question how the educational intervention enhance the societal changes in societies.

The conference will take place on March 9 at 12 pm at the Holiday Inn Hotel (Šeimyniškių g. 1, Vilnius). Draft program is available here.

Among the speakers of the conference are prominent experts in the field of higher education from EU, USA, Belarus and Russia, the leadership and the members of EHU academic community, such as EHU Rector Prof. G. David Pollick, President of American Councils for International Education Prof. Dan Davidson, Policy Officer at DG Education and Culture of the European Commission Ms. Kamila Partyka and many others.
