EHU opens a Movie Club

In November, the Center for German Studies of the European Humanities University (EHU) opens a Movie Club. The aim of the Club is to enhance learning of foreign languages among EHU students. The movies supplement the reading and the discourse of the EHU Core Curriculum. 

The meetings will be held every Thursday (18:20-20:00).

  1. November AMADEUS

Based on a play of the English Peter Shaffer, inspired by Alexander Pushkin, the movie shows how the mediocre composer Salieri meets with envy the genius Mozart.

  1. November OUT OF AFRICA

Based on a novel – and a true story – written by Karen Blixen the movie shows the life of a courageous Danish women making her way; finally finding and tragically losing the love of her life in Kenya, East Africa

  1. November BILLY ELLIOT

The movie shows a young English boy from working class background struggling with his family to make his dream come true – Becoming a dancer of classical ballet.

  1. November DEAD POETS SOCIETY

The movie shows how a gifted College teacher turns his literature class into an intellectual adventure with life shaping experience.

  1. December REVOLUTIONARY ROAD

The movie shows how dreams and expectations of a young US-couple of the 50-ies despite efforts remain unfulfilled causing life breaking apart.

  1. January THE PIANO PLAYER

The movie, based on a true story, shows how a young Polish-Jewish piano player survived Nazi-Occupation and Mass-Murder during WWII.

  1. January CASABLANCA

This world-famous movie is about dangerous life and unfulfilled love in hard times: Escaping Nazi-occupied Europe, carrying-on fight and resistance.

  1. January THE KING´S SPEECH

This Oscar-Winning movie-picture tells the touching story of King George V. overcoming his handicap for encouraging the British people in their brave stance against Nazi-Germany at the onset of World War II.

  1. January WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE’S THE MERCHANT OF VENICE

The motion-picture screens the famous play by William Shakespeare about a Jewish merchant in Venice facing Anti-Semitic rejection by the Christian majority.
