Master class “Introduction to color correction”

Color grading plays an invaluable role in film and television because it helps create the right mood, emphasize important details, and add visual appeal to an image. Students and teachers of the Media and Communications program had a unique opportunity to deepen their knowledge in this area by participating in a master class organized by a professional with many years of experience in the television and film industry.
On January 31, the EHU MediaHub hosted an experimental master class, “Introduction to Color Correction,” led by Thomas Rugis (Editor, Colorist, Workflow Supervisor). Thomas has extensive experience in the industry and is an expert in color correction and post-production.
The master class focused on the technical aspects of working with digital color. During the class, participants learned the basic principles of working with color, the differences between color models and profiles, and also studied the most important parameters that must be taken into account when filming video. Thomas spoke in detail about the differences in formats, settings that are critical for high-quality work with images, and much more.
The practical part of the master class was devoted to working with color correction tools in popular programs DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro X. Thomas demonstrated methods that will help participants achieve better results in their projects, and also shared his professional developments and secrets. Among other topics, issues of monitor calibration and the intricacies of working with images were considered.
The master class was attended by about 20 students and teachers, and it is planned to be repeated for a wider audience in the near future. In addition, other specialized master classes will be organized within the framework of the program at the EHU Media Hub with leading professionals in the field of film and television.
