CENTERS, INSTITUTES AND LABORATORIES

 

CENTER FOR THE STUDY OF THE HISTORY AND CULTURE OF THE JEWS OF BELARUS

EHU’s Center for the Study of the History and Culture of the Jews of Belarus (Jewish Studies Center) was established in May 2010.

The Center’s activities are focused on organization of academic conferences, seminars, round tables and lectures; organizing, cataloguing and digitization of archival materials; publication of archival source; research work; and publication of the Belarusian academic annual Tsaytshrift (צייַטשריפֿט), dedicated exclusively to Jewish studies (the first issue was presented at EHU’s Conference “Social Sciences, Humanities and Higher Education in Eastern Europe since 1991” in June 2011).

CENTER FOR ADVANCED STUDIES AND EDUCATION (CASE)

CASE was established in 2003 with the support of the Carnegie Corporation of New York to promote and foster the interdisciplinary research on the post-Soviet transformational processes in the Central Eastern European borderland (Belarus, Moldova, and Ukraine). The Center works to strengthen the local capacity for original research, create new interdisciplinary scholarly networks, and improve teaching in the humanities and social sciences. The Center publishes a book series and a cross disciplinary quarterly journal, “Crossroads quarterly”.

INSTITUTE FOR HISTORICAL RESEARCH ON BELARUS

The Institute for Historical Research on Belarus consolidates the interdisciplinary study of Belarusian history, organizes conferences and seminars, and publishes the books on Belarusian history.

 

CENTER FOR GENDER STUDIES

The Center for Gender Studies was founded in 1997 with the support of the John T. and Catherine D. MacArthur Foundation to promote the gender-balanced curricular, encourage gender research, support and facilitate the activist discourse of feminism and gender issues in the post-Soviet region. The Center is a participating in the regional center of excellence recognized by the Lithuanian Ministry of Education and Science.

CENTER FOR PHILOSOPHICAL ANTHROPOLOGY “TOPOS”

The Center for Philosophical Anthropology “Topos” pursues of researching the inter-subjectivity, communication and dialogue; it organizes scientific conferences and seminars; publishes the scholarly journal of philosophical and cultural studies “Topos” and a book series “Conditio humana”.

LABORATORY OF VISUAL AND CULTURAL STUDIES

The Laboratory of Visual and Cultural Studies performs analyses of diverse forms and meanings of visual culture; examines the new theoretical approaches and fosters a curriculum development; it organizes conferences, seminars, and publishes a book series “Cultural and Visual Studies”.

CENTER FOR GERMAN STUDIES 

The Center for German Studies aims to promote the European Studies, beginning with the introduction of a Certificate in German Studies in 2009. The Center provides education and training for building competencies, pooling extracurricular academic activities, hosting lectures and cultural activities, networking with the European partners, and maintaining a collection of the German language and literature at the EHU library.

 

LABORATORY OF CRITICAL URBANISM

The Laboratory of Critical Urbanism serves as a platform for scholars and practitioners working in the field of urban studies; it conducts the multidisciplinary research on urban space, organizes seminars, exhibitions and cultural projects, collects multimedia archives.

 

CENTER FOR CONTEMPORARY ART

The Center for Contemporary Arts develops a service-oriented portfolio for the contemporary art education.
