International Summer School on Nation-Building in Belarus

The International Summer School “Belarus in the European Context: Current Discussions on Nation-Building” will be held on August 2-8, 2010 in “Kernavės Bajorynė”, Širvintos district with the participation of prominent researchers as Aleh Latyshonak and Yauhen Miranovich (Belostok), Valentin Akudovich, Ihar Babkou, Valer Bulgakau, Piotr Rudkouski, Zachar Sybieka (Minsk), Elena Temper (Leipzig), Siarhei Tokts (Grodno), Alvydas Nikzentaitis (Vilnius).

During the session the main historical and social theoretical approaches of analyzing the Belarusian nation-building in the European context will be discussed:

  • Nation-Building: Role of Social Groups in Cities and Villages
  • Belarus in Search of National Idea
  • Belarusian Identity: History and Memory
  • Nationalism, Europeization, Democratization
  • Nation-Building in Belarus and Idea of Europe

The summer school is organized by the Institute for Historical Research on Belarus and Department of Philosophy of the European Humanities University.
