EHU students and faculty are invited to participate in an open competition for places on visits to the European Parliament in Brussels and to Swedish institutions in Stockholm. Deadline for applications is 12 p.m. on 12 May 2010.
These visits are organized separately by the hosts but are announced jointly to ensure fairness and transparency in the evaluation and selection process. Interested applicants are encouraged to state their preference in one of the opportunities listed below. They must follow all of the general requirements and take into consideration whether their eligibility might be affected by the screening factors.
Description
1. Invitation to Visit European Parliament in Brussels
The European Parliament President, Jerzy Buzek, invites EHU students and lecturers to visit the European Parliament on 8-10 June 2010. The purpose of the visit is to gain insights into the work of the European Parliament and to present ideas on the future development of Belarusian society.
The preliminary program includes meetings with President Buzek and Members of the European Parliament; a presentation about the European Parliament and observation of sessions in progress; a visit to the European Commission; and cultural program.
A total of 20 students and 2 lecturers will be selected for participation in the visit, including:

All students and lecturers registered in full-time and low residence degree-seeking programs, who have not already participated in an EHU European Parliament study tour, are eligible to apply.
Support is provided by the President of the European Parliament with a contribution from European Humanities University.
2. Invitation to Visit Swedish Institutions in Stockholm
The Swedish Minister for Nordic Cooperation Cristina Husmark Pehrsson, invites EHU students to Stockholm, Sweden on 21-22 of June 2010. The purpose of the visit is to gain insights into Swedish democracy and institutions such as the parliament and the government offices and to learn about Nordic cooperation.
The preliminary program includes meetings at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Swedish parliament, Ministry of Environment and includes discussions with Ms. Pehrsson, young diplomats, parliamentarians, and students of Stockholm University followed by a cultural program.
A total of 10 students and 1 lecturer will be selected for participation in the visit, including:

Procedure
The following general requirements will apply for both visits:

2. Applicants must submit a complete application before 12:00 p.m. on 12 May 2010.

5. The complete application and supporting documents should be sent by e-mail to Nico Rausch, International Relations Officer [international @ ehu.lt]. Please write in the subject area either “European Parliament Visit” or “Sweden Visit” to indicate preference.
6. Applicants can apply for a confirmation of good academic standing in the Academic Secretariat (Room 103).
7. Applicants are welcome to visit the Students’ Coordinator for questions or consultation concerning the competition (Room 120).
8. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
9. The Selection Committee will meet on 13 May 2010 to make a preliminary determination of prospective candidates and list of alternates. The Members of the Selection Committee will include administration, lecturers, and students.
10. Prospective candidates will be invited for a group interviews at the EHU Campus on 17 May 2010.
11. The Selection Committee will announce the results on 18 May 2010.
12. Participants in both visits will be required to maintain a diary and photographs documenting their impressions during the visits.
13. Participants will be asked to deliver a presentation to the academic community following their return.
14. The essays will be edited for publication and presentation to the hosts of the study tours. Students should indicate in the cover letter whether they agree or disagree to make public their names and essays.
