Rules
EHU library collection is a property of the European Humanities University. It is open for MA, BA and PhD students, professors, researchers and EHU staff, as well as students of the other Lithuanian universities and colleges and others.
Applying for Membership
1. EHU professors and stuff are asked to provide a passport on the basis of which membership is granted. EHU students are automatically eligible for membership after the enrollment order is issued. External members will be granted membership on the basis of student’s identity card or passport.
2. Students of EHU and other Lithuanian universities use their students IDs as library passes. Other members will be provided with a library membership card.
3. While applying for library membership one should read the library rules and confirm his/her commitment by signing reader’s records card.
4. The library is annually re-registering all the readers during which the reader is required to return all the borrowed books.
Rules of Loan
1. To borrow a book a reader must show a student’s identification/ reader’s card.
2. Borrowed books are registered in the reader’s record card. A reader must confirm by signing every book received.
3. EHU students obtain borrowing privileges after paying a deposit fee. (The fee is established by rector’s order). The fee is returned at the end of the year after having restored all the books back to the library.
4. The readers might borrow the books for the following time periods:
- Research literature may be borrowed for the period of up to two months:
- Professors, researchers and PhD students may borrow up to 10-15 items;
- Graduate students may borrow up to 10 items;
- Other users might borrow up to 5 items.
- Handbooks might be borrowed for the period up to one semester or up to one academic year as provided by study plans and educational programs.
- Periodicals: One might not borrow more then three items for more then 15 days.
5. All EHU library users may work with books and periodicals from the library collection in the library’s reading hall. Borrowing privileges are extended only to EHU BA, MA, PhD students, professors, researchers and staff.
6. Loans may be renewed in case the books are not put on hold by other readers.
7. Books and periodicals from the reading hall collections may not be borrowed.
Reader’s Rights and Obligations
1. The library users have a right:
- to get detailed information about the library collection and to temporarily use necessary items;
- to use reference and other services provided by the library.
2. The reader is obliged:
- not to take the literature out of the library without a permission of a library staff and a corresponding note in the reader’s record card;
- not to violate the order of books on the open access shelves, not to remove the cards from the library catalogues;
- to treat the books and other printed materials obtained from the library collection with care (do not tear or bend pages, do not make notes in the books or other printed materials), to return them in time;
- to inspect received books and other printed materials and to warn a librarian in case of damage;
- to produce a library or a student identification card for working in the reading hall;
- to keep order and silence while working in the reading hall;
- in case of loss or damage of books or other printed materials form the library collection the reader must replace them with other copies of the same book or with the books recognized as equivalent by the library staff. In case this is impossible, replacement fee is triple the price of the lost book at the moment of replacement;
- in case the damage of printed materials is found it will be compensated by the last three readers;
- to return all the books and printed materials to the library after quitting/graduating from the university.
