Launched in 2006 by the European Commission, the program combines EU education, cooperation and external policies to further deepen and enhance higher education cooperation links between the EU and the rest of the world. The Erasmus Mundus program is designed to foster institutional co-operation in the field of higher education between the EU and third-countries through a mobility scheme addressing student and academic exchanges for the purpose of studying, teaching, training and research. It also aims to promote co-operation between sending and hosting institutions, mutually enriching the educational environment of both the hosting and sending institutions in European and third-countries.
Participating in the program are the 27 member states of the European Union, European Candidate countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and third-countries (Lot 7) – Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus.
